Flavor is better than expected, though granted, my expectations for Sudden Death are pretty low at this point. Sudden Death Haze-rd County DDH IPA – Pours a fairly hazy light yellow with pretty good head. I had dreams of a Weihenstephaner Oktoberfest in my head, and instead I got a sweetened Export Lager. Did they take the non-wheat part of the Weizen and mix it with the Pilsner malt part of the Märzen? I am very confused by this beer, and extraordinarily disappointed. Honestly, to me, it just tastes like a slightly sweet Export Lager. But there isn’t what I would consider anything like a Märzen in this, nor are their banana or clove notes. It has a bit of a biscuit malt note, along with some sweetness. For a beer that is supposed to be a mash up of a Weizen and a Märzen, I taste neither of these styles. It could be that I didn't judge the pour very well.Ĭamba Wärzen (Weizen + Märzen) – Pours a fairly golden yellow with very nice head. In celebration of the Märzen thread ongoing in the Main forum, I decided to try this Camba Wärzen, which is a mash-up of a Weizen and a Märzen. Still, I'd take a case of this no problem as an everyday IPA (just not at this pricepoint.). You just sort of drink it without noticing it. On the other hand, there isn’t really anything that makes you pay attention to it. On one hand, this is good because it is nicely balanced. It doesn’t really have a calling card flavor. Bit of grapefruit, bit of mango, a hint of pineapple as well. That might be my fault the beer got a bit too cold. Nice beer.įrauGruber Tears of Fire DDH IPA (Motueka, Mosaic, Comet, Idaho7) – Pours a fairly flat, cloudy yellow-orange. I get the feeling that if they made this a few times, and tweaked the hop ratios a little, then it could really be fantastic. Malt is very much in the background, though the mouthfeel is solidly thick and hefty. And then sometimes a slight ashy note as well. Very mango forward, some orange peel as well, even a little lemon. Then others, this simply doesn’t exist and the citrus hops take over to an extent that reminds me of an NEIPA. At times, it has a bitterness at the end that provides balance. but we're starting to run out.įrauGruber Invisible Narratives DDH IPA (Citra, Hort 4337, Riwaka) – Pours a light gold with very nice head.
